Thane: The city police on Saturday arrested a 28 years old man who allegedly dragged a traffic constable for some 500 mt when the latter tried to stop his car at the busy Teen Hath Naka junction in Thane.

DCP, traffic, S B Palve told PTI that constable Narsingh Mahapure (47) asked Yogesh Bhamre (28), a resident of Shashtri Nagar, to stop as he was driving his car on the wrong side.

Bhamre allegedly did not stop and took a U-turn towards Nashik. As the constable was holding on to a side of car's bonnet, he got dragged for a distance of half a kilometre.

Some auto drivers intercepted the car and rescued him. Bhamre was subsequently arrested. The constable did not suffer any major injuries.

The DCP said that Bhamre did not even have a driving licence, and was found to be drunk.
