A 55-year-old police constable was injured after being allegedly hit by a motorcycle in Sewri area in Mumbai, police said on Tuesday.

The incident occurred last evening when Narendra Nawate, who was walking on the Masant Road, was hit by the motorcyle and sustained injuries, a senior official attached to the Sewri police station said.

There has been a spate of attacks on police personnel in Maharashtra lately, but the official maintained, "This is a mishap and not an intended attack."

A case under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act has been registered against the unidentified accused, he said.
