Surgeons at Fortis Hospital, Mulund successfully transplanted a donor heart into a 30-year-old female recipient, in fourth successful intrastate heart transplant from Pune to Mumbai.

The harvested organ was transferred within 1 hour 6 minutes, covering a distance of 133.52 kms, to Mumbai for the surgery conducted by Dr Anvay Mulay, Head of Cardiac Transplant Team, Fortis Hospital, Mulund.

The recipient from Buldhana, Maharashtra, suffering from Postpartum Dilated Cardiomyopathy with Atrial Septal Defect; was waitlisted for a transplant for over three months and a heart transplant surgery was essential to save her life. The surgery became possible when a 31-year-old male suffering from Intracranial Bleed caused due to a cyst and Obstructed Hydrocephalus was declared Brain Dead at Ruby Hall Clinic, Pune. We hope that this encouraging story inspires many more to come forth and join the cause, the act will enable many more life-enriching surgeries”.
