Prizes galore for Poonawalla Multi-Million day in Pune

Pune: A car, an LED tv and a laptop will be on offer as prizes in the "free contest of skill" organized by sponsors Poonawalla family on the occasion of the running of the S A Poonawalla Multi-Million (grade 3), slates as feature event of Sunday's nine-race card. Every entrant to the Pune racecourse will be given a free form, and all he or she has to do is to predict the first four finishers accurately in the feature race to be eligible to win the prizes. Historically, the car has mostly been won by first-time visitors to the racecourse, and that explains why the stands and lawns of the Pune racecourse are filled to capacity on this day. To add to the glamour quotient of the day, there will also be special prizes for the best-dressed lady and gentleman.

"Million" for super jackpot
The super jackpot pool will be augmented by Rs 10 lakh, brought forward from the past unsolved pools, and this move is likely to attract at least another Rs 20 lakh to the popular pool and the minimum investment required to win this huge amount is merely Rs five. Of course, you will required super handicapping skills and miraculous luck to crack it with just a single ticket of Rs 5. But then as the race club says in its advertisement, "If you never go; you will never know."

Germanicus favourite
Only six runners are in the fray for the S A Poonawalla Multi-Million, and Germanicus, trained by Vishal Gaikwad and to be ridden by A Sandesh, looks like the horse the others will have to beat to land the rich purse of the race. However, the race may prove much more tricky than expected with the Rehanullah-khan trained Eternal Sunshine (NS Parmar up) and the Cooji Katrak-trained Silken Eyes (Neeraj Rawal up) having been stripped fitter after losing their last races on this track rather narrowly. It certainly is going to be a race worth going miles to watch, and the winner, m.ore than paper form, may turn out to be the horse with the best fitness.
