Days after putting second year Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) students in a fix after announcing early exam dates despite a recent change in syllabus, the Mumbai University has put the first year students in a pickle now. The varsity has announced two papers on the same day and at the same time. Students were shocked to discover this issue on September 16, the day the timetable was released. However, to rectify its gaffe, MU has said it will hold a meeting tomorrow and discuss the future course of action.

MU declared the semester examination timetables on September 16. For first year science students from affiliated college however the confusion is how they would appear for two papers at a single time.
Two papers are clashing from three subject combination sets, which include six papers in total. Interestingly, there is no mention of the mathematics paper – which is in almost all sets – on all five days of the examination. (read: Clash of the paper titans)
“It was really shocking. When I approached professors in college, even they were shocked and said it will be notified to varsity and that corrective measures will be taken, as there is time for the exam.
But exams are the most sensitive topic for us, everybody who sees the timetable will be in shock until he/she approaches authorities,” said a student from MD College.
Bad light on exam section
Further speaking about the issue, a principal from a Bandra college said, “From one angle it is not a big issue as it has been notified and there is still enough time in hand for the university to make appropriate changes. But this only shows how work wasn’t done properly when preparing the timetable.”
Another principal from a college in Thane, said, “The issue may not be big as changes can be made. But this just puts a bad light on the examination section of MU, especially when it has already been in such controversies.”
“MU’s examination section is known for such mistakes. They in fact need to be more careful toward their work as theirs is the most sensitive section of the university,” said Deepak Sawant, former senate member of the Mumbai University.
MU responds
When contacted Deepak Wasave, Controller of examination, he said, “There is a meeting scheduled on Tuesday to discuss the same problem after it has been noticed. Appropriate changes will be made to the timetable to ensure students’ convenience.”
