Three men try to loot a couple by holding them hostage in their home, but their efforts were thwarted when victims’ neighbour called the police control room and over a 100 officers were dispatched to tackle them

It was 5.30 in the morning, when a man in his 20s entered a flat through the bathroom window, opened the main door to make way for his two companions and then the trio took hostage the flat occupants with the intention of looting.

However, all got foiled when an alert neighbour called the police, who turned up in full strength and arrested all the three.
This drama that can easily make up for a Hindi potboiler took place in the posh Ugam Society in Juhu. In the early morning hours yesterday, Sanjay Yadav climbed up the pipe and managed to enter the 2BHK flat through the bathroom window, which was made of layered glass panes. He walked all the way to the main door and opened it to let his robber friends Pawan and Abhishek Yadav enter. The trio then headed towards the bedroom to gag the couple, who by this time was awake. The couple — the man aged 53 years and the woman 50 — started shouting that eventually alarmed their neighbour.

The neighbour then locked the main door of the victims’ flat from outside and went to the third floor, where a relative of the victims stays. The relative then called the victims, with the man answering the phone. The accused started abusing them, which the relative heard that made him realise that the couple is in trouble.
They dialled 100 and a team of Juhu policemen arrived at the spot. As the officers were unsure about how armed the men were, over a 100 officers were deployed to bring the situation under control.
The entire eight-storeyed building was emptied and the area cordoned off. The robbers, who by this time had accumulated cash worth Rs 7 lakh and jewellery, hid in the bathroom. The police broke open the main door, untied the couple and arrested the three from where they were hiding.
Habitual offenders
Preliminary investigation revealed that Pawan was a habitual offender and had spent a year in jail in a robbery case and was out on bail at the time of the incident.
Sanjay had worked for the victims for 20 days and later quit the job making some flimsy excuse. The trio worked in tandem, with Sanjay doing the recee.
All the three from UP were booked under relevant sections of IPC and have been remanded to seven-day police custody after being produced before the Bandra court.
