The Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign may be promoted enthusiastically, but the reality is far from it. Girls continue to be neglected.

Two newborn girls were found abandoned at Kamothe in Navi Mumbai and Vishnu Nagar in Dombivli recently. Both were rescued and are being taken care of by cops.

On September 14, at 11:30 pm an alert citizen informed the Kamothe police, that a newborn baby girl had been found near Jawhar Industries.

Found in a cart
“He came to the police station and informed us, after which we reached the spot and found the girl was kept in a bullock cart and was crying loudly. The girl, who is approximately 10 days old, was wet in the rain and bitten by mosquitoes. We shifted her to MGM hospital in Kalamboli, where she is being treated,” said Ashok Naik, Senior Police Inspector, Kamothe police station.

Vikram Salunke, Police Sub-Inspector, Kamothe police station said, “A woman constable has been assigned 24 hours with the baby girl. We have also informed the Child Welfare Committee and will hand her over to them once the treatment is over.”

Another girl abandoned
On September 19, an approximately two days old girl was found at around 2 pm under a water tank on the creek road near old Dombivli west. It was raining and this baby was also kept without any protection from the rain and mosquitoes. She has been admitted to a local hospital.

The Vishnu Nagar police station in Dombivli west has registered a case against unknown persons under IPC Section 317 (Exposure and abandonment of child under twelve years, by parent or person having care of it).
