A Madrasa teacher was arrested yesterday by the Bangur Nagar police for brutally assaulting two minor boys with a bamboo cane on the suspicion that they were trying to poach his students for another school.

The boys are 13 and 14 years old and had come all the way from Varanasi for a better education.
"Both the boys were crying after they were beaten up so brutally. They could not even stand or sit properly due to the injuries on their body. Even animals are not beaten in such a manner. I had tears in my eyes after seeing their injuries," said social worker Farid Sheikh, who took them to Sidhharth Hospital and contacted the police.

Since their parents will take time to arrive in the city, they are being sheltered at the children's home for now.
Casual chat
When the boys came to Mumbai, they took admission in Darul-Waloom Faizane Haafize-Millat, in Tayaba Masjid, Goregaon west. They were students of the accused teacher, Maulana Hafiz Mahmood Ahmad (54).
But they recently transferred to another school because they were not satisfied with the quality of education. On Thursday, they returned to the school to meet their friends.
But when he saw them chat with the other students, Maulana Hafiz jumped to the conclusion that they were trying to persuade the other boys to leave the madrasa like them. He caned them mercilessly, leaving angry, red streaks on their body.
Booked for assault
Hafiz was booked for hitting the boys and was released on bail for R10,000 last evening. On leaving the police station, he told this reporter that that the boys had egged many other students to withdraw from the school. "These boys are mischief mongers and that is why they were removed from my madrasa on September 19. But they came back on September 22 and tried to tell the other students to leave with them. So, I got angry."

"We have registered the complaint under Section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the IPC and Section 75 (causing mental and suffering to a child) of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2014.
