Riding on 'keeper Ashitosh Sutar's brilliance between the sticks, St Paul's (Dadar) defeated St Rock's (Andheri) 4-2 in the tie-breaker to clinch the Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) U-16 boys Div IV inter-school football title at Cooperage yesterday. The match ended 0-0 in regulation time.

St Paul's, just like their semi-final match, tried to stifle the opposition by rifling balls into the box. But the St Rock's defence stood firm with Sudarsh Kamble and 'keeper Shivam Chaudhary particularly impressive.

The team held off St Paul's brilliantly and took the game to the tie-breaker. The tie-breaker turned out to be dramatic as the pressure got to both the sides, who missed a kick each. At 3-2 favouring St Paul's, in stepped 'keeper Ashitosh, who brilliantly kept out the penultimate kick of the match, which meant if they scored from their next kick they would win. And they did, as Joshua Lawson scored to send the rest of his team and supporters into ecstasy.

Ashitosh was happy that he could contribute for his side. “It feels good to contribute and it feels even better to win a trophy. We played really well. We have faced a lot of difficulties in this tournament, but we got through all of them,” he told mid-day.

'Glad to go up'
St Paul's coach Malcolm Blakely was ecstatic that his side achieved what they had set out for before the tournament.
“We feel that we don't belong in Div IV and we are glad to go up too. We dominated the game and could have won it in regulation time, but that's alright,” Blakely added.
