Dubai: Left-arm spinner Imad Wasim took career-best figures of five for 14 to help Pakistan thrash West Indies by nine wickets and take a 1-0 lead in their T20 series.

Wasim ripped through the West Indies batting order as the reigning World T20 champions managed just 115 from 19.5 overs in Dubai. Pakistan made short work of the run chase and surpassed the total in 14.2 overs.

Pakistan got off to a flying start after winning the toss and quickly reduced the Windies to 22 for five, Wasim taking three of the wickets to fall.

Dwayne Bravo was the only batsman to put up any resistance before he was out for 55 to a Umar Akmal catch off the bowling of Sohail Tanvir. Jerome Taylor, with 21, was the only other Windies player to reach double figures with the bat.

Pakistan had no trouble knocking off that target with Khalid Latif (34) and Babar Azam (55) seeing them to victory following the loss of Sharjeel Khan (22). The second match of the three-game series takes place on Saturday.
