Using the torrential downpour to his advantage, an unidentified man sexually abused an 18-year-old woman on an otherwise busy road in Dombivli on Thursday.

The victim, who was returning home from a computer tutorial, was pulled into the bushes flanking the street and allegedly assaulted and raped by the accused, as the strong showers and darkness had emptied the area.

The teen is an FYJC student from a reputed college in Dombivli and is a resident of Tisavali village in Kalyan.

“The victim is a college-goer and a computer teacher in an institute hardly a kilometre away from her home, where she works from 2 pm to 9 pm,” said Milind Patil, senior inspector of Manpada police station, Dombivli.

The accused is said to be around 19-years-old.

“After reaching home the woman reported the episode to her mother, who took her to Manpada police station,” said Patil.

He added, “We have started rounding up people matching the description provided by the victim, and have begun combing operations in areas near Dombivli after preparing a sketch of the accused. We suspect that the accused must be someone who is familiar with the area, and he benefited from the heavy rains.”u00a0
