After the Swargate police revealed that one of the six people they had arrested in a cheating case was a policeman, the repute of cops took a beating yesterday when they found out that a seventh accused too was a constable from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) of Pune division
The constable has been identified as Santosh Salunke, a resident of the Swargate police line, and was arrested yesterday.u00a0All the accused posed as CBI officials, raided the residence of Kayani Bakery’s co-owner on Saturday and made away with Rs 21 lakh.

According to the cops, Salunke knew Sunil Kasabe, a constable with Mumbai Police who was arrested on Monday along with five others. It was Kasabe who contacted Salunke and told him that he, along with some CBI officers, is coming to Pune to conduct a raid at a businessman’s house, and asked him to accompany them.
“During the interrogation, Salunke told us that he was not aware that the CBI team was fake. Besides, he didn’t suspect them at all as he Kasabe, who too is a cop, requested him them,” said Inspector Dipak Nikam.
He, however, added that it is hard to believe that Salunke was unaware of the plan, and didn’t find any thing amiss, as he is working with the police force since quite a long time. When contacted, Inspector Peter Lobo of the BDDS refused to comment. He said he is on leave and does not have any knowledge about such a person working in their unit.u00a0
