Located in the corporate hub of Lower Parel is the newly-opened House of Nirvana Caf ufffd. Head here for some appetising snacks, a cuppa of your favourite brew and unwind on the beanbags that dot the tiny cafe
The concept of Nirvana revolves around the ultimate moksha or liberation and the consequent peacefulness of the soul. Making a living in today’s day and age puts you in the opposite state of mind. So, it makes poetic sense to offer a calm and quiet spot to unwind bang in the midst of an office area where stiff suits and equally stiff shoulders are de rigueur.

The House of Nirvana Cafe, which opened at the start of the month, is tiny but stays true to its name. It can just about seat 3-4 people yet does offer a break from the cacophony outside and some yummy goodies to boot. The cramped-but-cosy café makes optimal use of the space with musical instruments adorning the walls along with a hand-painted saying by Patanjali, which provides food for thought.
On the day we visited we just about managed to reach on time (they shut by 8 pm) and grabbed some of the beanbags. With sentimental Bollywood songs playing in the background, we pored over the menu, which included various brands of coffee, tea as well as sandwiches, snacks and baked items. For the budget foodie, they have great combo offers as well and loyalty programmes wherein your fifth meal is on the house.
While some of the items listed on the menu weren’t available like the Red Velvet Muffin; we settled for a Dark Hot Chocolate (Rs 79) and Baked Vada Pav (Rs 20). The Baked Vada Pav was a healthier version of the popular snack and packed the same punch while the Dark Hot Chocolate gave us a happy sugar rush. The Paneer Tikka in Multi-Grain Panini (Rs 80) made for a great bite and oozed spicy paneer.
From their baked items menu, we opted for the Chocolate Donut (Rs 30) and the Choco Chip Muffin (Rs 65) which came doused in hot chocolate sauce. Both were just what we were craving for. The donut complemented the Hot Chocolate and tasted warm and fresh. The large-ish muffin was equally good albeit a bit dry in portions.
The Veg Biryani (Rs 119), which we tucked into later, turned out to be excessively salty but packed in a lot of vegetables. While we didn’t have the stomach for more, we do fancy ourselves visiting again to try out the various coffees they offer and their Natural Protein Shake (Rs 89) made with bananas and oats.
P.S. They deliver in the area as well and only serve vegetarian fare.
