In an alleged case of medical negligence, Uttam Mohite (40), a railway employee, at the Parel Workshop accounts department, died on Friday afternoon.

His friends and colleague gathered at the hospital after they received the information of his death and started asking for an enquiry claiming that Dr Deepa Aggarwal did not treat the patient properly thus causing his death.

The relative registered a complaint with Byculla Police station. That is enquiring the matter.

J P Gupta, Medical Director of the hospital set up an inquiry in the case. "If the doctor is found guilty immediate action will be taken on her. However, we are waiting for the post mortem report to arrive," he said.

Mohite, complained of back pain in the morning and approached the doctor in the office, who gave him a pain reliever and an injection and referred Mohite to the Byculla hospital.

According to R D Sharma, colleague of Mohite's, "Dr Aggarwal instead of admitting Mohite, just gave a pain reliever and relieved him from the hospital. Mohite walked to Byculla station and there he collapsed."

Mohite was then brought back to the hospital where he was declared dead. Angry relatives and friends started creating a scene at the hospital. After which the police was called in to control the situation.

Mohite a resident of Kalyan is survived by a son and a wife.
