Say cops about the student whose charred body was found in her house

In a development late on Monday night, cops investigating the suspicious death of 21-year-old Delhi University student Neha Jindal, who was found dead on December 8, said the post mortem report hinted the girl could have been murdered.

Cops said the report revealed Neha had died because of asphyxia. The police registered a case of murder and have begun their investigations accordingly.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Sagarpreet Hooda confirmed the report.

Talking to MiD DAY, Neha's father, Shyamsunder Jindal, a businessman dealing in electrical goods, said, "I have not been told anything by the police yet. I have been hearing in the news that the police have received the post mortem report and that my daughter died due to asphyxia. I hope the police arrest the culprits as soon as possible."

The case

On December 8, the charred body of Neha was found inside her Sarai Rohilla residence, barely 75 metre from a police station. Initially, the death looked like it was a case of suicide but no one in the vicinity had heard any cries of the victim when she allegedly immolated herself. "Prima facie, when our team visited the spot it looked like she had been murdered. The post mortem report only confirms our belief. We will be talking to the family officials and interrogating them too," said a police official, wishing anonymity.
