Like several Instagram users, we too have been hooked to mesmerising art videos on the social network. From colour-mixing videos that help calm our nerves and pose hypnotic properties to fun slime videos with the oddly satisfying squeaky sounds or zentangles, these have been feeding the colour craving of various art enthusiasts. Another such art form is dot painting. Originally an aboriginal form from Australia, this artwork involves creating patterns using dots of different sizes. Dot artworks are also practised by certain communities in Africa.

The technique is such that it lends a 3D effect to the artwork. These paintings are used to depict everything from folk stories to sacred symbols. Though the paintings originally used colours such as black, white or red obtained from natural ingredients, bold colours are prominently used in contemporary pieces. If you are keen to learn this art form, there are two upcoming workshops to pick from, in Khar and Andheri. Both will combine it with another therapeutic art form, Mandala (universe) making.
