It was a scary day for one family, which resides in a high-rise in north Mumbai's Kandivali suburb, after a bullet hit the wall in their house.

A senior citizen, Shailendra Sabhnani (64), residing with his son and family on the eighth floor of the Kalpataru tower in Kandivali was shocked when a portion of a bullet shattered a windowpane and hit the wall in the hall at approximately 9.20 pm on Saturday night.

"He was sitting in the hall and was surprised to see a bullet hitting his window. He immediately informed his other family members and then the police station about the incident. The family members were in shock and they are not talking to any outsider," a security guard at the tower said.

Despite repeated attempts, Sabhnani refused to meet this mid-day correspondent.

Though nobody was injured. Sablani informed the police, following which a probe was launched.

Police officials observed that the bullet had most likely come from the gun fired by the military unit, which is situated opposite the tower.

An official from Samta Nagar police station said that the Central Vehicle Depot (CVD) staff had explained to the cops that they had observed a thief in the area and shot at him, and a wayward shot could have hit the eighth floor residence.

The high-rise and CVD shares the same wall.

"One can see every possible detail from the tower which is not safe for the city.  Anyone can go and recce the area of COD," said a police officer.
