Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu was also present on the occasion along with Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Guardian Minister (suburbs) Naseem Khan, Guardian Minister (city) Jayant Patil along with other ministers, officials from MMRDA, BMC and JICA, which is funding the project.

This metro corridor, which will linking Colaba to Seepz via Kalbadevi, Girgaum, Worli, BKC and the airport, will be the first to be constructed by the newly constituted Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL).
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has played a major role in the planning and designing of the 32.5 km metro corridor – the first underground metro in Mumbai. The line will comprise 26 underground stations, one station at grade and a car depot in Aarey Milk Colony in Goregaon-East.
The metro-3 corridor is expected to be completed in the next seven years and is financed by Government of Maharashtra, Government of India along with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The cost of this project is Rs 23,136 crore.
It is said that the line will become operational in the next five years.
