A contract killer, who along with his associates, allegedly killed a Congress corporator in Maharashtra in 2010 was arrested here Friday, police said.

Rajesh Singh, a resident of Uttar Pradesh's Gonda, was arrested from a luxury hotel in Qaiserbagh area here, police said.

According to police, Singh, along with two of his accomplices, had allegedly killed Congress corporator from Bhayandar Praful Kashinath Patil, 51, in Thane district May 8, 2010.

Police said he had confessed to committing the crime.

Station In-charge of Qaiserbagh police station, Vijay Prakash, told IANS that Singh had been absconding since the murder of Patil, who was first shot in the back from a close range and then attacked with choppers.

The corporator was allegedly in a tussle with some local leaders over a plot of land in the Mira Road-Bhayander area. The two accomplices - Ajay Pandey and Rasool Sheikh - were earlier arrested by the Mumbai police.u00a0
