The Maharashtra government has revised daily wages being given to prisoners on the eve of the Ganesh festival.


A government order issued on Wednesday said that skilled prisoners who were receiving a wage of Rs 40 per day or task would henceforth get Rs 55.


Those in open penal colonies would be paid Rs 70 per day or task. Wages of semi-skilled prisoners have been hiked from Rs 35 to Rs 50, while unskilled prisoners' wages have been hiked from Rs 25 to Rs 40, the order stated.


This revision is as per recommendations of a committee appointed by the government in July 2013, the order in the form of a government resolution stated.
