Maharashtra Polls: Election officers seize Rs 15 lakh from builder's car

A flying squad on election duty seized R15 lakh from a builder’s car while patrolling in Zaveri Bazaar on Monday evening.

Rajesh Sarode, senior executive magistrate of the Colaba flying squad, who seized the amount, said, “Officer Sanjay Sawant and I were patrolling the area when we checked the car and found the cash. We suspect that it belongs to a political party. We took him to LT Marg police station and called an Income Tax officer
to hand over the case to them.”

Nandkumar Nair, assistant expenditure officer, said, “Our officer seized the amount and the case has been handed over to the Income Tax department for investigation. In the builder’s statement, he claims that the money does not belong to any party. He said that he had withdrawn the money ahead of the festival time for his own work.”
