A month after Pakistani actress Mahira Khan and Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor's smoking photos went viral and created an uproar on social media, Mahira has spoken yet again on the controversy. In September, Ranbir Kapoor and Mahira Khan were spotted together in New York and the photos of the two went viral, triggering dating rumours. Soon after the photographs went viral, a lot of people started slamming Mahira for smoking and wearing a short white dress. While Ranbir Kapoor issued a public statement in this regard, Mahira chose to maintain silence until last month.

Now, Mahira Khan has opened up yet again about it in an interview to Something Haute. Mahira said that not issuing a statement was a deliberate move by her. "I'm a very strong woman but when all of this happened, I was completely shattered and broken. I would think about posting a statement every day. Then I would stop myself because I just wouldn't know what to say," told the actress.

She further told, "I am human, I make mistakes." Mahira's upcoming film 'Verna' has a song 'Power Di Game' which was posted by her on her Twitter account. She said that the song was her response to the trolls who attacked her. The 'Raees' actress feels that the negative comments are received when you 'disappoint' your fans.

"It's the same disappointment that my nani (maternal grandma) or my mamoo (maternal uncle) would have felt seeing that. So even now when I meet an older lady who says that she didn't like the pictures, I'm quick to apologize," revealed Mahira. Popular Pakistani actors like Ali Zafar, Humaima Malick, Mawra and Urwa Hocane lent support to Mahira Khan.

Ranbir, too, released a statement in favour of Mahira saying, "I've gotten to know Mahira in a personal capacity over the last few months. She is somebody who I admire and respect, for her achievements and even more for the person she is. It is very unfair the way she is being judged and spoken about. What is also sad is the inequality in judgment just because she is a woman. I request you to stop the negativity and move on with your beautiful god gifted lives. Peace and love."

Earlier, at the trailer launch of 'Verna', the 32-year-old actress had said, "Through the times of turbulence, through the joys, through the ups and downs, through the mistakes we make and all the success we get, let nobody... nobody's opinion define who you are. And if anybody defines who you are, let it be yourself. Because including me and all the women out there, we're all worth it!"

Mahira also spoke to TV channel SAMAA TV and said, "I am a very careful person otherwise. People ask me that I do not do this in films (probably she meant smoking), I say I do not want to. Why should I do anything to show the world?" She further clarified that meeting Ranbir Kapoor was a personal thing. "It is my personal life and it is very normal for a boy and girl to hang out. This one incident has taught me a lot."
