Six maestros of Carnatic music will bring their musical prowess together for the fusion concert called Southern Express

Shankar Mahadevan, Sivamani, Selvaganesh, U Shrinivas, Vikku Vinayakramu00a0-- the list of performers can't get any better. The talented musicians, who have created a mark for themselves in their respective fields, are combining their vocal and instrumental genius to put together a concert that will include Carnatic, Hindustani and elements of Western music at the Shanmukhananda Hall.

The rhythms of Vinayakram's ghatam will combine with the strums of Shrinivas's mandolin and Sivamani's drum beats to create a memorable experience for the audience. "We promise it'll be a fun evening with Carnatic music merging with various other genres of music," says an enthusiastic Mahadevan. "You can listen to Carnatic music with Western music in the background. There is also going to be a percussion jugalbandi and I'll perform a duet with Shrinivas," he adds.


Selvaganesh

Shrinivas, popularly known as Mandolin Shrinivas, is a child prodigy. "All of us have composed new pieces for the show. Whenever we perform, we do something different," he says. Shrinivas, who has also trained in Western classical music, says that the evening will see a blend of different genres of music.

"It will be World music," says Sivamani in an attempt to describe the music they are going to play. "I am going to jam with the greats of Carnatic music and we are going to rock the evening," he declares. The percussionist believes that every stage is different and that makes every performance special. With such maestros on stage, expect a captivating performance. As Srinivas puts it,u00a0 "Our creativity and imagination will come alive on stage, so be ready for a few surprises."
