Making a mark with quiver full of stage passion

The name of this theatre group is Tarkash, which means quiver. And the arrows in this quiver are beginning to find their mark, as plays staged by the college group get appreciated, even winning prizes in competitions.

The name of this theatre group is Tarkash, which means quiver. And the arrows in this quiver are beginning to find their mark, as plays staged by the college group get appreciated, even winning prizes in competitions.

Headed by Tushar Bhatt (23), a student of media management, the group has 10 members. All are students at the International School of Business and Media.

"We gave our first performance in the college fest -- FORZA -- and won second prize with the play Ali Baeg," says Tushar. "Recently we performed in an inter-collegiate organised by the theatre group Niche Stagekraft at the Nehru Memorial Hall. We got the first runner-up prize for our 'Deewar ki wapasi,' a social satire." At last month'su00a0 Niesta Championship at Nehru Memorial Hall, Tarkash got the second prize and Tushar won the best actor award. The play director was Filmfare award winner Sutanu Gupta.

Members of this group come from all over the country. "The one thing that binds us is passion for theatre," says Tushar. "We do all genres, social issues being our forte."

Group member Ankita Joshi (22) has been active in theatre for some years and is a singer too. Devendra Surolia is a good critic, feels the rest of the group. Sandeep P K (22) is reputed to have a great sense of humour.

Aditya Gupta (24) is appreciated for his intense roles. Sheshkant Diwedi (22) is a "good actor," Ali Ayub (23) has the ability to wear different caps, doing justice to all characters he plays. Aditya Buty (23), besides acting, is a good painter and helps set designer Deepak Borchade (22). Aanupam Sinha (21) and Amit Rawani (22) look after lights.

Tushar says, "I have been doing theatre for five years. Iu00a0 am a part of the theatre group Natrang in Jammu, my home. This group is owned by Sahitya Kala Akademi awardee Balwant Thakur. I am also with city theatre group Maadyam."

Tushar has also directed a short film, Seher, which was screened at the ICE (International Cultural Exchange) in the city.
