Pretty Baby Doll singer Kanika Kapoor, and her alleged new beau, SoBo boy Aditya Kilachand, son of writer Shobhaa De, have by all accounts been painting the south of France red this past week. The couple was spotted in happy spirits along with a bunch of friends at the glamorous Les Palmiers beach club at St Tropez, over what appears to be a margarita and white linen brunch this weekend. And a source informs us that the couple, which has been making the most of their Riviera getaway, later boarded a luxury yacht that set sail across the Mediterranean.

Diamonds all the way
It was, according to those who attended it, a veritable cruise liner of a party this weekend in St Tropez, the very heart of the Riviera, when diamond heiress Carol Asscher (whose company is responsible for cutting some of the most famous diamonds in the world including the Cullinan diamond presented to King Edward VII,) hosted a glittering celebration over multiple events for Europe's high rollers to bring in her own 50th and her son Nicholas' 18th birthdays.

Harking back to an earlier era of flamboyance and replete with spectacular live acts, a hashtag of its own (18and50shadesofpink) a themed dress code (pink haute couture) and celebrated Italian tenor Andre Bocelli serenading the guests, the occasion saw a sprinkling of Indian invitees, many who happened to be in the region fresh from their stint at Paris Fashion Week. And in this gathering of prime sybarites, could Sybarite Extraordinaire Lalit Modi be far behind? 'Wishing you both the most beautiful year ahead filled with love and laughter.

Here's to the Lady with the most #generous heart' he posted on social media the next day. Incidentally, Asscher's last big birthday bash, a lavish multimillion-dollar affair in Venice, was five years ago, when 500 of her closest friends, including Ivanka Trump had partied for three days and four nights!

Upcoming celebrations
A lady never discloses her vintage, but word comes in that Chhaya Momaya has a big birthday coming up towards the latter half of this month which will see the event organiser put her well honed skills into hosting a glamorous event for her friends.

Opening the doors
This is how serendipity works. Speaking on a sleepy Sunday afternoon to design entrepreneur Krsnaa Mehta (he was watching the Exorcist!), whose vibrant new store at Kala Ghoda, India Circus, appears to have carved a special niche for itself in the city's heart, we stumble upon a scoop. We had called Mehta to apologise for our laxity in accepting his very attractive invitation to visit the half a dozen events that the store has hosted since it opened its doors.

"We haven't even made it to see the new Zara store at Fort," we say by way of an explanation. His store, which appears to be as colourful as its creator, has already gained recognition for generously hosting a slew of fun filled events that have not only brought it footfall but attention.

"It began with Rachel Wawn's NGO Befriend, then we teamed up with Om creations which rehabilitates and trains differently abled young people, to celebrate ability in disability, by giving them a platform to sell their products, after that I had two of my friends who bake for two months in the year and a florist selling their wares," says Mehta, scion of a design family, who ably teamed up with Godrej for the label which began as an online venture.

"I wanted the place to be an interactive brand experience," he says of the soirees he has hosted with the likes of Indus and The American Woman Club and Mumbai Connections. "I am especially enjoying teaming up with NGOs which are doing such good work," he says. "Soon the store will collaborate with Pheroza Godrej and the charities that she works with."

So, what's the scoop you ask gentle reader? The fact that there will be another store opening by September at a new currently under construction section at the Palladium. "It's going to be almost 1,600 square feet, and will be right next to the new Massimo Dutti store which will also open its doors for the first time in Mumbai," says Mehta, inadvertently presenting us with yet another scoop. And then he goes right back to watching the Exorcist.

Mr Pout-Us and his ways
So now that he is all over the G20, lurking and then startling world leaders with his sudden appearances and hand pumps, and looming all over the proceedings, we might as well narrate how Mr Pout-us had developed his offensive manner way before he became top dog. A long-legged Indian beauty, who had the misfortune of having to deal with His Orange Highness when he ran an international beauty pageant, can only recall the utterly shabby way he treated his professional colleagues and associates.

Another high level media executive who also had to meet with the Dump recalls how he had managed to turn even a courtesy meeting at his office in his imposing Towers into an exercise in one –upmanship and crassness: I was shown into this ginormous room at the end of which he sat unsmiling behind an imposing desk. "Come along young man, let's get this over with," he barked as a way of greeting and before I knew it, he had pulled me behind his desk and a minion of his clicked a selfie.

"Everyone wants their picture with me," he said, recalls the bewildered executive. "But I hadn't ever mentioned that I'd wanted one." And how did he assess his professional dealing? "The less said the better," says the still smarting executive. "He was out to screw the last cent out of any deal."
