Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday heaped praises on maiden Indian Super League (ISL) champions Atletico de Kolkata for their spectacular win and lauded the initiative for taking the sport to the grassroots.

Atletico de Kolkata clinched the inaugural ISL crown with a 1-0 win over Kerala Blasters at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.

"My heartiest congratulations to Atletico de Kolkata for winning the first-ever ISL tournament held in India.
Congratulations and best wishes to the organisers, players and all members of the team for this great success," Banerjee posted on her official Facebook page. The Trinamool Congress supremo termed the series a "great morale booster".
"ISL as a sporting event popularising Indian football and taking it the grassroot level will be a great morale booster for football lovers in Bengal.
