Her husband Anil (32), a resident of Goyalkar Apartment in Dhankawadi, was arrested by Bharti Vidyapeeth police on Monday and charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, which included attempt to murder and assault.
“Anil works as a labourer in Market Yard and Pooja is his second wife whom he married six months ago. The incident took place on Sunday night at 11 pm, after Anil came home and demanded his wife to make him an egg omelette. She, however, served him egg bhurji,” said Police Inspector Sunil Yadav.
“Enraged with the defiance, Anil abused and started assaulting her, threatening to kill her. He then dragged Pooja to the kitchen, doused her with kerosene and set her on fire with a lit candle,” he added.
“The victim was rushed to Sassoon General hospital and is now undergoing treatment. After recording her statement, we arrested Anil. He has been remanded in police custody for four days,” Yadav added. u00a0
