Late on Saturday, the Oshiwara police arrested a man on charges of house trespass, robbery and other sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The accused later claimed that he was personal assistant to Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty. According to the police, the accused and his associate entered into the complainant’s house and assaulted him. The accused, identified as Vijay Batham, had given Rs 60,000 to the complainant Shazeb Khan two months ago, for undisclosed reasons.

An officer of Oshiwara police station confirmed that the accused Vijay Bantham had claimed to be Shilpa Shetty’s PA, following his arrest; he also claimed to have worked for Priyanka Chopra

Recently, Khan wrote out a cheque of Rs 60,000 to clear his dues, which later bounced. Angry, Batham and his accomplice, identified as Umesh Tripathi, barged into Khan’s Lokhandwala residence on Saturday evening and assaulted him, as his family members watched in horror.

Batham and Tripathi then snatched three mobile phones from the house, two of which belonged to Khan and the third to his servant. They fled from the spot after this. Unable to bear the humiliation of the attack, Khan tried to end his life by hanging himself from a fan, but was stopped by a family member. He is now receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Kokilaben hospital.

Batham was arrested late on Saturday night. Tripathi is still at large. Batham was produced before Bandra court and remanded in police custody till June 4. The cops have registered a case against the two men under sections 392 (robbery), 452 (house-trespass) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC. API Ravindra Patil of Oshiwara police station said, “The accused claims to be the personal assistant of Shilpa Shetty. He also claimed to have worked for Priyanka Chopra.”u00a0
