After being cheated out of Rs 2.8 lakh over a housing deal, victim left a note implicating three men, leading to their subsequent arrest
The Kurla Government Railway Police (GRP) yesterday arrested three people for abetment to suicide of a garment shop worker.
According to the police, before committing suicide, the deceased had handed over a note to his 11-year-old son, instructing him to show it to the police, following which the accused were arrested.

According to the police, Mahmood Farooq Mohammad Sahadat Ansari (35), a resident of Pipe Road, Kurla used to work at a garment store in Kurla Kamani. Ansari had paid an amount of Rs 2.8 lakh to Mainhuddhin Shaikh, Sohail Shaikh and Raffique Shaikh for a house.
“The three had promised Ansari that they would give him a house in a MHADA building if he paid them Rs 5 lakh. Ansari had paid the initial Rs 2.8 lakh,” said a police officer from the Kurla GRP station.
However, when the three accused failed to show him the flat, he demanded that they return his money, after which the accused began avoiding him and giving vague explanations.
“Frustrated with this, Ansari handed a diary to his son Altaf near Kurla station on Tuesday and asked him to give it only to the police. Ansari then told his son to go home, saying that he had some work to do,” said Shivaji Dhumal, senior police inspector of Kurla GRP.
“On his way home, Altaf saw his father lie down before an oncoming on the track near platform one of the station. Ansari was crushed under an oncoming train and died on the spot. When the police reached the spot, they found Altaf weeping uncontrollably near the body, who then narrated the story to PSI Gaikwad.”
Dhumal added that Gaikwad later registered an FIR against the three persons mentioned in the diary.
“In the suicide note, the three were accused of harassing him and not returning his money due to which he allegedly committed suicide,” said Dhumal.
The police nabbed the three immediately. During investigations, it was learnt that Ansari had asked his employer’s son to write his suicide note.u00a0
The boy had even asked Ansari whether he was committing suicide, to which he had said that he needed the note for his son, who was asked to write one for a school assignment. u00a0
