The police said Ruchira (28) and Chetan got married in 2007 in Nagpur. They shifted to the city after Chetan received a job offer from a multinational automobile company for the manager’s post.u00a0

Accused of harassment:u00a0Chetan Masukar, whose wife Ruchira has filed a complaint accusing him and her in-laws of demanding dowry and taunting her for not conceiving.

The couple led a smooth life until Ashtekar shifted to the city from Noida and started living with the Masukars. In her complaint, Ruchira said Rahul would often taunt for not being able to conceive even after so many years of marriage. She also said Rahul and her in-laws would badmouth and insult her parents on a regular basis.

In August 2011, Chetan and her in-laws started pestering Ruchira for Rs 50 lakh. They threw Ruchira out of their residence and said she would not be allowed to enter the house unless she gets.

Ruchira said her parents met Chetan and her in-laws in Nagpur to resolve the issue, but her in-laws warned them that Chetan would divorce her if they failed to give them Rs 50 lakh. Ruchira then lodged a complaint with Nagpur police station officials. The case was then forwarded to Womens Grievances Redressal Cell and the couple was asked to stay together for the next three months following which Ruchira and Chetan came back to Pune in June.

Despite counselling, Chetan and his family once again started harassing Ruchira and threaten her that she would be thrown out of the house if she failed to give them Rs 50 lakh.

“Irked by the constant harassment by Chetan’s family members, Ruchira approached officials of Kothrud police station and lodged a complaint against them. The accused were booked under Section 498 A (Cruelty against married Woman by husband and in-laws) and other relevant sections of the IPC,” Police Inspector of the Kothrud police station S B Navale said.u00a0
