A court in Chandigarh Tuesday sentenced a 36-year-old man to five years rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a three-year-old girl. The case was decided within 17 days of the incident which happened March 2 here.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Shalini Nagpal sentenced Bahadur to five years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on him.

Bahadur was arrested March 3 after he was accused of the luring the child, who lived in his neighbourhood, with chocolates. As he took the child to a house, a woman in Kajheri area here saw him, and raised an alarm. The girl was freed by local residents.
He was convicted by the court within 14 days of the incident, making it the fastest conviction of its kind in Chandigarh.
