Mother of victim catches labourer red-handed, yells for help; crowd hands over culprit to police
A labourer working at a construction site in Yerawada during his lunch break raped a two-year-old girl, while her mother, who is also a labourer there, kept looking for her.
Finally, the mother caught the labourer in the act and yelled for help, after which a crowd gathered and nabbed Shibu Chandrakant Bhuiya (22) of Uttam Township, Maji Sainik Nagar, Yerawada.
All the the labourers working at the construction site of Uttam Township had returned to their shanties for the lunch break on Monday.
Thrashed by mob
The girl's mother realised that her daughter was missing and started searching for her. Some neighbours told her they had last seen her daughter with Bhuiya.
She immediately went to Bhuiya's shanty to check and caught him raping her two-year-old daughter. The labourers and residents thrashed him and handed him over to the Yerawada police. A case was registered late on Monday.
"Bhuiya is originally a resident of Jharkhand and was working at the construction site since last one month. He was staying some 100 metres from the shanty of the victim," Senior Police Inspector Deepak Sawant said.u00a0
Bhuiya was produced in the session court and was remanded to police custody till November 8. The girl was shifted to a government hospital and her condition was reported to be stable.
Earlier, on October 11, 23-year-old Deepa Mhaskar, lost her life in Maji Sainik Nagar when her former lover Meerilal Pingale set her ablaze.
