An auto-rickshaw driver, he was supplying inmates of the Central Jail with the banned substance, was caught red-handed

With the arrest of a 21-year-old auto rickshaw driver, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) claims to have stopped a steady supply of marijuana to inmates at the Central Jail. The accused, Syed Hasan was caught red-handed while he was transporting five kg of the illegal substance, concealed under the seat of his vehicle.


In the net: Hasan used to contact his clients, most of whom were
associates of inmates.


ACP R Lakshman said that Syed Hasan, a resident of DJ Halli would supply the drugs to the inmates for a quick buck. The police say that Hasan would make Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000 every day in this way, apart from his regular earnings.

Lakshman said that Hasan used to buy marijuana from his contact, Ramana from the outskirts of the city. He would then make small packets, and conceal them under the passenger seat of the rickshaw, and drive to the auto stand near the prison, where he would wait for customers.

According to the police, Hasan had two phones with which he would contact 'clients', most of whom were associates of inmates. They would buy the substance, and pass it on to the inmates.

The CCB initiated investigations to track the source, and came across Hasan's name. They intercepted his vehicle while he was on his way to the rickshaw stand near Madiwal junction. A thorough search resulted in theu00a0 recover 5 kg of marijuana worth Rs 75,000, two mobile phones, besides some cash.

"We have booked a case under NDPS against him at Madiwala police station and investigating further to track down his contacts and the main supplier," Lakshman said.
