Man kills wife, children; hangs self

In a shocking incident four members of a family were found dead in their plush apartment early Friday morning.

Dinesh Jain (25), was staying with his wife Monica (22) and two daughters Harsha (4) and Toshika (9 months) for last three years at flat no 302 of Jalaram Park in Bhandup (West).

On Friday morning, Jain's sister-in-law Radhika (name changed) paid a visit to the family. When no one answered the door bell, she alerted the relatives staying nearby. The neighbours broke opened the door only to find Jain and his family dead.

Jain was found hanging from the ceiling fan in the kitchen, while his wife and two daughters were found dead in the bedroom, the police said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone VII) R M Vatkar said, "We have recovered a suicide note written in Hindi by Dinesh, wherein he admits to killing his wife and daughter before committing suicide."

Preliminary inquiries reveal that the incident may have happened between midnight and 7 am. Police believe that Dinesh may have first killed his wife and then the kids. He used a pillow to smother his wife to death and later used a nylon rope to strangulate his two daughters. Dinesh then used the same nylon rope later to hang himself.

Local residents claimed that they seldom heard the couple fight and that Dinesh was running a grocery shop nearby.

According to sources, Dinesh was upset since last few days, as he was allegedly tested positive for HIV and that may have forced to to take this drastic step.

DCP Vatkar clarified that they would be probing the case from all possible angles.

The deceased bodies have been sent to Rajwadi Hospital for an autopsy and the reports are awaited.

However, Vatkar added that the relatives and family were in a state of shock and were not forthcoming with any information. The scene would be clear in next few days.

Meanwhile, Bhandup police have registered a case under section 174 (Accidental Death) of Criminal Procedure Code and later will book Dinesh under section 302 (murder) of IPC before closing the case, if nothing comes out during the probe.
