The police arrested Abdul Kalam Fatiullah Sheikh and booked him under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Sheikh was produced in Bandra Holiday Court yesterday and has been remanded in police custody till January 18. According to officials, Abdul’s wife had been having an affair their neighbour, Shafique Sheikh, since October. He suspected this, but did not have any proof. So, he decided to keep an eye on his wife, a mother of three, and catch her red-handed.

On Saturday morning at 5, when she went out of the house, Abdul followed her. He saw her with Shafique inside a public toilet in a compromising position. Enraged, he returned home and thrashed his wife the moment she stepped inside the house. Later, he went to Shafique’s residence to kill him, but he was not at home.

So, Abdul attacked three of his family members with a chopper. The injured were identified as Farzana, Suneri and Aslam. Abdul attacked the first two, both women, brutally. While Suneri lost a few of her fingers, Farzana was grievously injured and is battling for life at the Bhabha Hospital. Shafique said, “I just want my family members to get well soon.” It was Abdul’s younger brother who handed him to the police. Officers said Abdul told them he had no remorse and felt he had done the right thing by assaulting Shafique’s family. They said that despite the gravity of his crime, he appeared calm.
