A brother-sister duo aged five and three were sodomised and raped last Wednesday by laundry man Nitish Kumar Kanojia in Kalamboli, Navi Mumbai.

According to investigating officials from the Kalamboli police station, the boy and girl were playing last Wednesday afternoon when 25-year-old Kanojia, who works at a laundry close to their home, lured the girl away from her brother by offering her chocolates. "Kanojia took the minor to a deserted alley adjacent to his workplace and allegedly forced himself on her. Not satisfied with the trauma he inflicted on her, he demanded that the girl send her brother to him. The scared girl mutely complied and Kanojia escorted the five-year-old to the same alley and sodomised him," said an official from the Kalamboli police station.

When asked why the delay in the arrests, officials added that the case came to light only last Sunday when the parents took the children to a doctor for a check-up.

"The doctor detected several injury marks on the private parts of both the children. He was told the entire incident when the parents came clean," added the official. The parents had kept the issue hidden all this time owing to social embarrassment and hence had not reported the case to the police. "Only after much insistence from the doctor did the parents finally agree and registered a case at the Kalamboli police."

Senior Police Inspector K T Vidhate said that Kanojia was arrested yesterday from Turbhe.

"The father of the victims had assaulted Kanojia but he managed to flee. We caught him near Turbhe. He is currently being questioned. He has been booked under Sections 376 and 377 of the Indian Penal Code and further action will be taken after inquiries are completed," said Vidhate.
