A man was arrested for grievously injuring his 24-year-old wife after he and his friends attacked her with a blade and sticks on Saturday night. According to the victim, she was attacked by her husband as she tried to prevent him from thrusting their five-year-old daughter into life as a bar dancer. According to the DN Nagar police, the accused, Aslam Kazi, was running a prostitution racket in Sion.

The victim, who had come from Aurangabad to Mumbai after her father’s demise, met Kazi who lured her on the pretext of giving her and her ailing mother a good house and support and convinced her to marry him. After the marriage, the victim realised that Kazi was running a prostitution racket. According to the victim, Kazi had married earlier as well.

Resigned to her fate as she was financially dependent on him and also needed money for her mother’s treatment, the victim put up with Kazi. However, after a few days, Kazi asked the victim to start working in a bar and hand over the money to him. “I objected at first but later had to do as he said as he had clicked my nude pictures and videos. He threatened to upload them on the internet,” the victim told MiD DAY.

Heinous plan
A year later, a daughter was born to them. When the girl turned five, Kazi wanted her to be trained in dancing and other activities so that she could also be sent to bars to earn. “I wanted my daughter to study but my husband used to forcefully take the money from me. The moment I realised my husband’s plans for my daughter, I ran away from my his home,” she said.

Taking the girl with her, she fled to D N Nagar area where she began living under a different identity. Unfortunately, Kazi tracked her down. On Saturday, Kazi and his two friends barged into the victim’s house, dragged her outside and attacked her with sticks and blades. They left her in a pool of blood and fled when neighbours rushed to her rescue. They admitted her to Bhagwati Hospital and called the police.

“We intervened when the trio were trying to take victim’s daughter’s away. They attacked me with a blade in the process and ran away,” said a friend of the victim. Based on the statements given by witnesses and the five-year-old girl, the D N Nagar police arrested Kazi and booked him under Section 324 (causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), Section 325 (causing grievous hurt) and Section 504 (insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the IPC.
