Man who shot dead wife at Delhi metro station allegedly commits suicide
The man who allegedly shot dead his wife and critically injured her father has committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree, police said Wednesday.
A day after he was charged with killing his estranged wife in a shooting at a Delhi Metro station, the accused allegedly committed suicide near a railway station in Muradnagar in Uttar Pradesh.
Pawan, who had shot his wife Deepti, 25, and her father Bisham Das when they were entering the Karkardooma Metro station on Tuesday in Delhi, was allegedly found hanging from a tree on Wednesday.
The body was found by the Government Railway Police (GRP) early Wednesday morning, who informed police, an officer said.
A Delhi police team has gone to Muradnagar, a senior police official said.
The police had on Tuesday seized a .12 bore double barrel gun from the spot where the firing took place. Pawan had fled leaving behind the weapon, they had said.
Deepti was rushed to nearby Hedgewar hospital but was declared brought dead. Bishan Das, who received two bullets in his shoulder and stomach, was initially taken to Hedgewar Arogya Sansthan Hospital from where he was shifted to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital where he is under treatment but stated to be out of danger.
Pawan Kumar, 30, a resident of east Delhi's New Usmanpur area, was on the run after fleeing from the spot of shooting, leaving his weapon, cartridges and car outside the Metro station.
"Five empty cartridges and a double-barrel rifle have been recovered from the spot," a CISF official said. The CISF looks after security at all Delhi Metro stations.
Bishan Das, a resident of Chirag Dilli in south Delhi, told police that there was discord between Deepti and her husband and a case was going on in court. He was returning with his daughter from Karkardooma court after attending a hearing when they were shot.
