Man, woman held for trying to implicate cop in false rape case
Officials of the Vishrantwadi police station arrested a 36-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman for trying to implicate an official from the Khadaki police station in a false rape case.
The two were booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and would be produced in the court today. The accused Prakash Lanke called up the police control room and said that PSI Bhutambare had to rape a woman in an intoxicated state. Soon, a team of officials from the Vishrantwadi police station reached the spot and discovered that Bhutambare was locked inside the room.
“On Wednesday evening, PSI Bhutambare had gone to Lanke’s house to investigate a case related to abatement to suicide. Soon after Bhutambare entered the house, Lanke called Kamal Kapase. Both of them are residents of Anirudhha society in Vishrantwadi. He then asked her to sit besides Bhutambare and clicked the pictures,” Inspector P B Gophane of the Vishrantwadi police station said.
He said after clicking their pictures, Lanke told Bhutambare that he would call the police control room and register a case against him that he raped Kapase, and immediately called the control room. When officials of the Vishrantwadi police station reached Lanke’s residence, they realised that Bhutambare was sober. Further investigation revealed that it was Lanke’s ploy to malign his image.
“During interrogation, the woman revealed that Lanke called her and said that he would click her pictures with Bhutambare and then blackmail him for Rs 10 lakh. She said Lanke promised her Rs 5 lakh,” Gophane said.
