Former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez received terrible news yesterday when he heard his girlfriend Lucia Villalon is in hospital with a collapsed lung.

Hernandez immediately booked an international flight to Spain leaving his German side Bayer Leverkusen teammates behind after taking special permission from coach Roger Schmidt.

The 28-year-old Mexico international, fondly called Chicharito, was not called up for his national team’s World Cup qualifiers against New Zealand and Panama because he is still recovering from a broken hand. "Chicha has an individual training schedule. It makes sense that he’s not here this week, because of his private situation and also so he can rest after his broken hand. He’s not joining his national team," Schmidt said.

Lucia posted a picture with Chicharito on Instagram with a caption: "It's always better when we're together.”

Chicharito is having a time of his life in the Bundesliga side, having scored five goals in his last three games.
