The film stars Manoj Bajpayee and Rajkummar Rao in lead roles. It is loosely based on the real-life incident of a gay professor, played by Bajpayee, who was terminated from his job because of his sexuality.
The shooting started in January-end in Bareilly and after a two-month schedule, ended in Mumbai in second week of April.
This is Rao's third film with Mehta after 'Shahid' and 'CityLights'.
'Aligarh' is scheduled to release later this year.
