A man in Britain had his ears, a lip and part of his nose bitten off by another person in a sickening street brawl over a girl.

The 31-year-old victim was knocked to the floor and punched in the head nine times before the attacker leaned in and began "eating away at his face and head", The Sun reported.

The two were fighting over a girl. A policeman investigating the attack said it reminded him of a lion "wrenching the flesh from a gazelle" and described it as the most sickening attack he had seen in his 27-year career.

The fight occurred outside the Funky Box nightspot in Liverpool city centre last week.

The injured man was rushed to hospital and is due to undergo plastic surgery in an attempt to rebuild his face, but only one ear was found at the scene of the attack, which was captured on CCTV.

Police official Stuart Moore said: "It is horrific, sickening and it is almost barbaric what takes place. "The footage shows a fight between two males. The victim and the assailant could be seen brawling in the street. Both males fall to the floor and there's a struggle."

A 28-year old man charged with assault was remanded in custody to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on November 28. Another man arrested on suspicion of assault was bailed until November pending further enquiries.
