The Bihar police on Saturday claim to have arrested two Maoist leaders, including Pramod, the alleged mastermind behind the abduction of four policemen after an encounter in the forest of Lakhisarai district, last Sunday.

A Maoist spokesman on Saturday night said the three policemen taken hostage by them in Lakhisarai would be freed by Sunday morning and the outfit's top decision-making body rejected the talks offered by Bihar government.

A day after the bullet-riddled body of Bihar cop Lucas Tete was found, Maoists on Saturday apologised for wrongly saying that they had killed Sub-Inspector Abhay Kumar Yadav. The rebels said that the other three policemen they had abducted were safe.

Maoist spokesperson Avinash told a local Hindi news channel that he was sorry for the wrong information he gave about Yadav's death earlier.

In West Bengal on the same day, a school teacher who was a member of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), was shot dead by Maoists in Midnapore district.

"Dibakur Mahato, a teacher of Salboni Primary school, was shot dead during school hours," said Superintendent of Police (Jhargram) Praveen Tripathi.

According to locals, a group of five-six armed rebels came to Salboni school on motorbikes and dragged Mahato out of the classroom, took him to the Highway 9 and shot him dead.

In Jharkhand, five Maoist rebels were arrested from two districts. According to the police, three guerrillas, including a woman, belonging to the Jharkhand Prastuti Committee (JPC) were arrested from Mangra village of Latehar district.
