Marc Marquez on pole for MotoGP decider

The 20-year-old Spaniard was fastest in practice and on Saturday afternoon set a new pole record of one minute 30.237 seconds to sit ahead of compatriots Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa on the grid for the title-decider.

Reigning world champion Lorenzo is the only rider who can deny Marquez after winning the last two races to trim the Repsol Honda rider’s lead at the summit to 13 points and keep the championship alive.

However, Marquez needs just a top-four finish on Sunday to be crowned world champion.¬†Yamaha Racing’s Lorenzo had broken Pedrosa’s pole record from last year on his first attempt on Saturday but engine trouble then forced him to use his back-up bike and he ended up 0.34secs behind Marquez.
