Mumbai Cricket Association's (MCA) Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) met yesterday to choose coaches for different age groups, but decided to select Mumbai's Ranji Trophy coach on Friday. Former Mumbai coach Pravin Amre and ex-India skipper Sameer Dighe are strong contenders to take over the position.

"We had a lengthy meeting to appoint coaches for Mumbai's various teams. Pravin Amre, who has vast coaching experience, and Sameer Dighe, who was employed as a coach at the National Cricket Academy for the last seven to eight years are in the fray for Mumbai's Ranji coach. The CIC will decide between these two on Friday," said a source yesterday.

Former Test skipper Ajit Wadekar was also present for the meeting. However, newly-appointed MCA chief selector and CIC member Ajit Agarkar was absent due to health issues.
Meanwhile, after interviewing various candidates, the CIC appointed former Mumbai and Railways opener Amit Pagnis, who led the India U-19 team in the 1998 World Cup in South Africa, as Mumbai U-23 coach. Satish Samant, who earlier coached the Mumbai U-17 team, will now take charge of the U-19 team. Former Mumbai opener Vinayak Mane was appointed as the U-16 coach while Sandesh Kawale will coach the U-14 side.
Aparna Kambli, Jayesh Dadarkar, Vinay Dandekar and Swati Patil have been appointed coaches for Mumbai's senior women's team, U-19 girls, Mumbai University men's and women's team respectively.
