Striker Angelo Fernandes, who scored the lone goal off a Bosco Pereira corner in the second half, was ecstatic. "This team is playing in the third division for the past three years. But it gives me immense joy that I joined the team only this year and we got promoted to the second division. Next year I will have to shoulder more responsibility," said the 23-year-old.
Asked about the idea of calling themselves Blitzkrieg FC, their captain Shashank Raorane said, "Three years back when we came to register our club with the MDFA we wanted a unique name. The name Blitzkrieg means 'lightning war', the strategy Germans followed during the World War II.
For others, winning the third division title might not be a great achievement, but for us winning the title from more than 170 teams in fray is more than satisfying as a skipper."
