If You loved Mumbai rapper Divine's Jungli Sher and Mere Gully Mein or rapper Naezy's Asal Hustle, then you need to be introduced its producer Sez, or Sajeel Kapoor. He has also produced Naezy's recently released Tehelka. Along with being behind the biggest Indian hip hop hits, Sez is creating history by selling his beats online to whoever wants them. His platform Stunnah Sez Beats, is doing something nobody in India is doing right now. "If you are a singer or rapper, you can just come on to my website, and then you can license my beats or buy them, and then you can put your rap on song over it. In this industry, it only works if you create your own niche, your own market. Most Indian musicians don't get that!" he says over the phone from Delhi.

Yet, Sez who seems to have understood the market is only all of 22 years old. Still a Punjabi munda who got a degree in computer science from Delhi University. But, he says, he'd been creating beats since he was 15. "That was sort of a back-up plan," he says, "The music started as a hobby, where I used to make mash-ups. At first, I was only interested in electronic music." And Bollywood, of course. He would play videogames and in the background, would play a play list with Hindi film music, Punjabi music, and artists such as Tiesto, Skrillex and David Guetta. "My first beat was an EDM one. It was called C'mon and was pathetic," he laughs.

It was when he discovered the hip-hop forum Isignia that things really took off. "That forum itself is a landmark in Indian hip hop history. Rappers and producers used to come online and battle each other. And that's where I met Stunna, who became my partner in StunnahSezBeats," he says. He then started building beats on the software, Virtual DJ. It was after he had been producing beats for a while that he met Divine on Facebook and their first song, Yeh Mere Bombay, came to life. "Facebook is my life! I have met so many fellow musicians on it. And my target audience is rappers and musicians, because they buy my beats. And then their audience, becomes my audience." He is right now in the middle of producing a Punjabi rap album for the artiste Prabhdeep. "What inspires me is listening to more music. That's the only education that a musician gets. No one can study beats. No one can teach you how to add emotions to your beats, it's all about observing and learning."
