The PMC and PCMC submitted the progress report for the Bus Rapid Transit system to the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Rural Mission (JNNURM) and assured that the transit system will be fully operational by December 2013
The proposed four-route system will cover a total of 68 kilometres in the city.
S K Lohiya, director, Civil Transport Department, JNNURM called a meeting at Delhi to overview various BRT projects in the country. Officials of municipal corporations of various states were present for the meeting, in which a presentation was made of the current status of BRT projects.

Dr Pravin Ashtikar, deputy municipal commissioner (Special) of the PMC and Anupkumar Yadav, additional commissioner, PCMC were present at the meeting. They gave a presentation on the city’s BRT project and the phase-wise action plan. The four proposed routes are Warje-Kharadi (22 km), Kothrud-Vishrantwadi (17 km), Dhayri-Hadapsar (17 km) and Katraj-Kalewadi (5 km).
“Till now, PMC and PCMC have spent around Rs 1,000 crore for the infrastructure, which is funded by JNNURM. The report includes details about completed work and fund utilizations. Currently, infrastructure of BRT roads is complete. Addition Rs 100 crore will be spent for the bus stops, signboards and Intelligent Transport System,” said Ashtikar.
Ashtikar and Yadav also discussed the issue of PMPML buses. “Apart from BRT, JNNURM also released funds for 650 new buses. These buses have been inducted step by step. Out of 650, 25 buses remain to be inducted, which will be done at the end of this month,” Ashtikar said.u00a0
