Scores of beneficiaries under 13 governmental schemes entitled to get Direct Cash Transfer through UID yet to get numbers allotted
The central government may have chosen Pune from among the five districts in the country to introduce Direct Cash Transfer (DCT) though UID for 13 governmental schemes from March 1, but it seems highly unlikely that the deadline will be met. Till date, out of 55,000 Scheduled Castes (SC) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) scholarship students entitled to DCT, only 627 students are actually eligible to avail the benefit. The reason being that the district administration is yet to receive UID numbers of the remaining students.

The government announced on January 1 this year that the DCT scheme would begin. The deadline was thereafter extended to March 1. Now, the district administration is claiming that DCT will be started sometime in March, as the UID numbers of many beneficiaries are yet to received. u00a0In Pune district, there are a total 71,000 beneficiaries of 13 various governmental schemes, including students’ scholarship scheme, which has the largest number of beneficiaries.u00a0
“A total of 25,361 SC category students and 30,131 OBC students in the district pursuing higher studies, are eligible to get scholarship through DCT. Out of these, we have UID details of 627 students and we are generating bills of the beneficiaries who will receive scholarship even before March 1,” said Apoorva Wankhede, deputy collector, who is looking after implementation of the DCT scheme in the district.
Wankhede added that it is not that the authority has not been able to get the UID details of the remaining beneficiaries, but the time being lost in between the internal processes that is causing a delay. u00a0“It’s not that we don’t have the UID details of the remaining students. We have Enrolment Registration Details (EID) of many of those students who have applied for UID. We are forwarding these EID numbers to Mumbai UID office, to ensure make that numbers are generated on a priority basis,” Wankhede said.
She added that out of a total of 71,000 beneficiaries of all 13 schemes, till now the district administration has received UID or EID numbers of around 35,000 beneficiaries. u00a0“We have appointed two additional agencies to conduct the UID registration drive to cover all the remaining beneficiaries as early as possible. For this purpose, another 100 UID machines will be brought in. Right now, there are 250 UID registration machines in the district,” Wankhede said. u00a0 u00a0
