Mehta started off with a break of 47 to win the first frame. With a lead of 50 points in the second frame, Jimmy got back and put Mehta under pressure, but Mehta came out of that to snatch the frame and go up 2-0.
Even though White broke off leaving a long red in the third frame, Mehta tactfully potted it and made it 3-0.
After losing the fourth frame, Mehta fought back after the interval starting strongly with breaks of 30 and 67 to go up 4-1. In the sixth frame, Mehta showed enough maturity to seal the fate on the green.
“I am thrilled about the win today as Jimmy was a tough opponent. I need one more to qualify for the final stages in China,” an ecstatic Mehta said.
Mehta will take on Jamie Cope in the fourth round today.
